1. A Book of music Is Not Technically Sheet Music

The American Heritage Dictionary defines Sheet Music as “Compositions printed on unbound sheets of paper”. So books of music script would not (technically) be classed as sheet music.

2. “Sheet Music” Was The Title of an Album by 10CC

This was the second album written by 10CC which reached number nine in the UK album charts, and number eighty one in the USA. The 1974 release by the Manchester (England) band included the singles “The Wall Street Shuffle” and “Silly Love”.

3. Sheet Music or Score?

These two terms actually mean the same thing, as score is the more generic description of Sheet Music. There are several types of score including “full score”, “miniature score”, “piano score” etc. Score can also be used to refer to incidental music written for a play, TV or film.

4. The First Printed Sheet Music Book Appeared in 1457

The “Mainz Psalter” was the first book printed to include music notation. It was printed in Mainz, Germany but still had to have the notation filled in by hand!

5. The First Machine Printed Music Appeared in the 1473

The first sheet music publications printed on machines didn’t appear unitl 1473, almost 20 years after Gutenburg had invented the printing press. Before this most sheet music was written by hand! This was essentially when the Music industry as we know it began.

6. Chappell & Co Were Founded in 1810

Chappell and Co were founded in 1810 by Samuel Chappell, Francis Tatton Latour and Johann Baptist Cramer. They started by selling and publishing sheet music. It was only later that Chappell & Co began selling the pianos that they became so famous for. Chappell & Co now operate as two separate companies; the publishing company “Warner/Chappell Music”, and the music retailer “Chappell of Bond Street” (on Wardour Street, London).

7. Manuscript Paper is the Blank Form of Sheet Music

Manuscript paper is blank sheet music pre-printed with (typically) two sets of six staves on a line, marked with a “Clef” to indicate the key and pitch of the piece of music. 8. The Earliest Piece of Sheet Music was from 1400 BC

Clay tablets (transcribed by Prof. Anne Kilmer in 1972) containing the cuneiform signs of the Hurrian language contained a completed hymn with both words and music. The hymn related to the Moon God’s wife Nikal, and included instructions for vocals and harp.

9. Tablature Tells You Where To Put Your Fingers

As apposed to the traditional notation of sheet music, Tablature (or Tabulature/Tab) transcribes the music with the placement of fingers written as numbers. It is usually written for fretted instruments such as guitars, but can also be used for percussion and some other instruments.

10. Free Guitar Tabs Sites Are Not All Legal

But don’t worry, it is the websites themselves that are the only ones to be concerned. As of Monday December 12, 2005, distributing free tablature of copyrighted music using the Internet is considered illegal by the international music industry.

Several free tab sites were shut down in 2006 as a results of legal pressure from music publishers including MXtabs.net (now back online as a legitimate resource), and also Guitar Tab Universe who later re-launched as “Music Student and Teacher Organization” (MuSATO) claiming that as an educational resource they were not longer in breach of copywrite. The music industry maintain their opposition to free tab download websites.

P2P (peer-to-peer) is a type of file-sharing network that people all over the world to trade files, or torrents, with each other directly, without an external server possible. Computer on a file-sharing network link on using peer-to-peer software. A few examples of files shared over P2P are freeware, shareware, beta, and the original works of all kinds, from music to photography, programs and scripts. It is not acceptable to copyrighted material without permission to share.

Copyrighted material containing software that is shared in a manner which, with its End User License Agreement (EULA), commercial Music and movies is not compatible. These products are often in spite of laws that protect the plants by prohibiting unauthorized dissemination released. Even a user who intends only to download materials from a distributor because of the way P2P is working. Jammie Thomas was guilty and having found overwhelming evidence, to pay to pay $ 80,000 per song, for a total of $ 1.92 million USD appeal.

RIAA Have public reputation for the defeat, which is often characterized as an overly aggressive response addressed to the problem. In December 2008, the RIAA has known it is no longer to target, working with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to warn offenders instead. New processes have continued to be filed, however, and the RIAA is not the only one monitoring P2P networks. The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) is also targeting file-sharers to break copyright-laws.

Andersen harrowing ordeal with insane jury awards have made some people avoid P2P all together. It may be true that most independent Artists like Terrance Day won’t receive major airplay in the US. However, new emerging talent can still be heard through an online presence. This has been proven with independent music sales through CD Baby, iTunes, and other online music stores.

Terrance wrote 10 songs in 10 days from Nov. 1 to Nov. 11 in 2003. Those songs are included on the CD “A Simple Life”. After 4 years of recording and music production, he hopes to make a healthy impact on his audience. Songs on this new CD feature original Rock and Country music, with Alternative and Pop influences. The lyrics share positive messages with colorful imagination, faith, and life experiences. The CD was released last month on his own independent record label called “3000 Records”.

Previously, Terrance Day has toured around the USA several times since 1999. During the last tour in 2003 he drove a 1973 Plymouth Fury station wagon nicknamed the “Superwagon” from Michigan to Texas and many other states! He likes to write music that inspires people and share the music with as many people as humanly possible! He is available for booking at venues like coffee shops, churches, restaurants, bars, house concerts, or even as an opener for bigger acts. The next tour will begin this December, and continue well into 2008.

The tiny Greek island of Paxos, with its olive groves, secluded bays and beaches and pretty coastal villages, has become a favorite destination for music lovers during its annual jazz and classical music festivals.

In June, the Paxos Jazz Festival attracts talented and well-known musicians from near and far to meet in the open-air, idyllic place with perfect summer weather. And of 2-13 September 2006 at the prestigious Paxos International Music Festival offers concerts of classical music in Loggos.

Since 1986, this festival has been a tradition of excellence in performance, and has developed a loyal following of visitors and locals. In addition to presenting of major works of chamber music repertoire, the festival has commissioned new pieces specifically for the island. To this end, we belonged to be here for a thousand and a thousand more years, a cantata, the story of Paxos from its mythological origins to the present, and Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, translated into Greek. Now, under the direction of the United Kingdom Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the 2006 festival will showcase great works by composers anniversaries, which this year, including Mozart's Quintet for Clarinet, Schumann's Piano Quintet, a string quartet Bartok and Shostakovich's Piano Trio. Guildhall and give students and teachers, five special concerts. For the first time in Paxos, Singer will present a repertoire of songs and arias.

As was mentioned in our article on “the History of the Guitar,” guitars have been around for centuries. The original guitars were Acoustic guitars, which changed in shape over several hundred years. Since you’ve already been given a timeline of the evolution of the guitar, in this article we’ll go into greater depth discussing the Acoustic guitar itself.

History

The Acoustic guitar is essentially a descendent of the Classical guitar, which, in its current form, has been around for over 100 years. The main difference between the Classical and Acoustic guitars are that one is strung with nylon strings, while the other is strung with steel strings. Since the Acoustic guitar is strung with steel strings, it has a louder, brighter sound which is appealing to folk and blues players.

Another difference between the Acoustic and Classical guitars is that the Acoustic guitar has a bigger body size, stronger structure, and a narrower neck than does the Classical guitar. The structure of the Acoustic guitar is stronger so that it can withstand the immense tension placed on it by the heavier steel strings.

Acoustic-Electric guitars haven’t been in existence for nearly the amount of time that their Acoustic counterparts have. These guitars, which have the ability to be both plugged into an amp and played unplugged, have been around for roughly 70 years.

All about the Acoustic guitar

The bodies of cheap Acoustic guitars are typically made from laminated tonewood. More expensive Acoustics are made from higher cuts of solid spruce top wood On an Acoustic guitar, the material which the body is made from really matters, so those looking for a rich sound will want to choose a guitar with a body made from nicer wood such as spruce top wood.

The neck of the Acoustic guitar is usually made from maple, mahogany, or rosewood. However, some guitar necks are comprised of different woods. Yet again, the quality of wood does matter. Generally speaking, Acoustic guitars with necks made of a high quality maple or mahogany and bodies made with solid spruce top are quality guitars with great tone. These guitars usually cost $250 on up.

The vibration of the strings is amplified by the soundhole of the guitar. This is where all sound that you hear comes from.

If you look inside the soundhole of the Acoustic guitar, you’ll see the construction of the body. There are braces and linings, all essential to keeping the guitar intact and playable. X-bracing, a strong, durable bracing, is typically used on Acoustic guitars because it is heavy and strong enough to withstand the pressure of steel strings.

On the body of the guitar, you’ll find the bridge. This is where one end of the strings goes. The strings are inserted into the little holes and the bridge pegs hold them there.

On the neck of the Acoustic guitar is the fretboard. Most fretboards on the Acoustic guitar are made of rosewood or ebony. More expensive Acoustic guitars have fretboards made of higher quality woods.

The headstock of the Acoustic guitar features six tuning pegs (three on each side of the headstock) and six tuners (three on each side of the headstock). Good Acoustic guitars will have die-cast Grover tuners which usually stay in tune longer than other brands of tuners.
