I am a first tenor and I have a very high range. But when I sing high, my notes sound way too nasally. I want to eliminates this and plus I have always been intrigued by classical singers like David Phelps, he was classically trained, but he sings contemporary gospel. Anyways, I need a book that will give me some techniques on this.

I’ve been in Greece for a few months and i hit up the clubs in Kalithea. I like the music and want to download it but i don’t know the names of any songs.

Classical music terms and HELP PLZ?

I went to a piano recital and need to do a paper comparing 2 pieces of music from the performance.
But the problem is….I like know nothing about classical music. The booklet I got has the names of the pieces I think…but i dont kno how to identify them…:(
So for example, in Bold it says:

Ballades Op. 10: Ballads, Opus 10.
(Opus numbers are a numbering system composers used to “order” their works)

Andante: “Walking speed” — about 88 beats per minute. Walk from one point to another and take note of how quickly you take each step — that’s about how fast the pulse of the music goes.

Intermezzo: Intermezzo is a term used for a piece of music that’s “in the middle” of something. An intermezzo is usually the middle movement of a three-movement work, if it hasn’t been assigned some other title.

Allegro: Fast. Starting at about 120 beats per minute to around 160 beats per minute. To find 120 BPM, look at a watch with a second hand, and tap twice (evenly) per second.

Andante con moto: “Walking speed with motion”. This would be interpreted musically as a more “expressive” version of just plain Andante — emphasis would be placed on moving parts of the music to provide a sense of forward motion.

As to whether these were multiple pieces or a single one, this is most likely several separate compositions. “Ballades” is another word for “songs,” which usually are single pieces, this just happened to be a collection of them. If you were to refer to just one of them, you might say “The Andante con moto from Brahms’ Ballades, Op. 10″ or something so your reader knows which piece you’re talking about.

It might also help to see if you can get your hands on the original sheet music and look for where the individual markings you mention above are – frequently, there’s a break, like you’d see in between paragraphs, in between one “song” and the next in cases like this.
